We need to end our forced consent of the prosecution of nonviolent drug crime. What our taxes pay for should reflect who we are. Almost no one would report a nonviolent drug offense to the police, so why should we pay the police enforce them through our taxes?
I don’t smoke cannabis and I don’t think everyone should smoke cannabis. But there are two things that I cannot argue with:
- The medical benefit this has for treating multiple symptoms, whereas other medications may not treat as effectively, cost more, or have adverse side effects.
- Criminality. Criminalization only causes harm – wasting taxpayer dollars and ruining lives, due to gang violence as well as the prosecution of people that use cannabis.
